About Behind the Veil
Can she keep the secrets of her past to rescue a girl tormented by a ghost?
In 1920s Los Angeles, Letitia Hawking reads the veil between life and death. A scrying bowl allows her to experience the final moments of the deceased. She brings closure to grief-stricken war widows and mourning families.
For Letitia, it is a penance. She knows no such peace.
For Alasdair Driscoll, it may be the only way to save his niece, Finola, from her growing night terrors. But when Letitia sees a shadowy figure attached to the household, it rouses old fears of her unspeakable past in England.
When a man comes to her about his missing daughter, the third girl to go missing in as many months, Letitia can’t help him when she can’t see who’s taken them.
As a darkness haunts Letitia’s vision, she may not be given a choice in helping the determined Mr Driscoll, or stop herself falling in love with him. But to do so risks a part of herself she locked away, and to release it may cost Letitia her sanity and her heart.
Praise for E.J.Dawson’s writing
(Behind the Veil is a new book, not yet rated on Amazon. This prolific authors’ many previous novels have been consistently rated 4 and 5 stars). Below is a Netgalley reviews of Behind the Veil, and a sample of reviews from her other books.
I had a ton of fun reading this. The writing was atmospheric and gothic and I really loved our main character. The cover caught my eye scrolling through Netgalley, and after reading the synopsis thought to give it a try and I’m SO GLAD I did. Netgalley Review
The character development is excellent, with a Tolkein-like usage of unique languages, and there are many plot twists, each of which are well developed. You can’t see them coming, but realize afterwards you should have.
This is an extremely well-imagined universe filled with intriguing characters. I highly recommend The Well of Youth to anyone who loves fantasy, adventure, and simply a well told story. Amazon Review
E J Dawson creates a wonderful world and an exciting adventure, replete with government intrigue, deep and multi-motivated characters, and pirates! The setting is unique, the historical and archeological basis for the theme and plot are no doubt drawn from her unique background in history and archeology. The action is a little reminiscent of Indiana Jones, but had me turning page after page just to see how it all turned out. A thoroughly enjoyable book. Amazon Review
EJ Dawson has upped the ante with Darkening. There were so many close calls and don’t get me started on the level of fear she generated in some scenes that had my body breaking out in goosebumps. This was smooth sail reading for me…except the winds were high, the waves were rough and I was holding on for dear life, both scared and eager to get to the end – because of how brilliantly written this was.
